For those who were present on Sunday, October 26th, the time capsule opening was filled with all kinds of interesting items. The capsule was filled in 1980 and it was a reflection of the congregation from that year—complete with pictures, newspaper articles, and lists for people who were attending at the time. Someone had taken the time to draw a plat map of Springdale, showing each building and listing every person who lived in town. It was fascinating to see the town, the church, and to hear many of the names once again. This month, we are collecting items that we would like to add to the time capsule, our “time stamp” for 2025. If you have any suggestions, please tell anyone in leadership (Steven, Paula, Jessica, Manda, Lynda, Julie, Jo, Rebecca) or drop things off at the church. We will be re-sealing the time capsule and putting it back under the altar on November 30th, the last Sunday in November.
This month, our focus in worship will be thanksgiving as we look at the end of the year, and all the blessings we have received and look forward to in the future. As a part of this, we will spend two Sundays talking about stewardship and our gratitude. There will be two opportunities to fill out pledge cards, during November and then again January, when we will be focusing on discipleship. Cards can be obtained November 16th or 23rd, or on the table in the entryway.
What are you thankful for this year? I know I am constantly thankful for this congregation, its mission, its ministry, and its love for one another and the world.
Have a blessed November.

GET THEM TALKING: HELPING OTHERS
|
Scripture
“I assure you that everybody who gives even a cup of cold water to these little ones because they are my disciples will certainly be rewarded.” Matthew 10:42, CEB
Reflection
When we hear about church missions, we often think of big, organized programs: missionaries serving far from home or the annual church mission trip. But Jesus often talked about missions as simply helping the people we encounter every day, like giving a cup of cold water to someone who is thirsty, food to a neighbor who is hungry, or visiting those who are alone. We don't have to travel far from home to do these things, we can do them wherever we are.
When we think of missions in this way, every day—at school, work, home, wherever we go—can be a mission trip.
Get them talking
-
When has someone helped you? How did you feel?
-
When was a time you helped someone? How did that make you feel?
-
Why do you think it matters to Jesus that we help others?
Prayer
Dear God, give me a heart to be a helper. Amen.
Activity
Decide on a family service project. It could be donating clothes, taking a meal to a neighbor, or collecting money to donate.

DISCOVER "MISSION POSSIBLE FOR THE SMALL CHURCH"
|
Are you curious about how small churches can make a big impact? Mission Possible for the Small Church, by Kay Kotan & Blake Bradford, offers practical guidance, inspiring stories, and actionable ideas to help congregations of any size thrive in mission and ministry.
Here at Springdale United Methodist Church, we know that every member has a part to play in making a difference in our community. This book encourages us to think creatively about our gifts, our time, and our opportunities to serve—and reminds us that even small churches can accomplish extraordinary things.
We invite you to read this book and consider joining a small group discussion where we can explore its ideas together and discover ways to put them into practice in our own congregation. It’s a great opportunity to grow in faith, share insights, and strengthen our church community.
If you’re interested in participating in a discussion group, please let Rebecca know and let’s see what mission is possible for us!

IN MISSION TOGETHER: IOWA MISSIONARIES
|
The Iowa Annual Conference celebrates our ongoing partnerships with United Methodist missionaries serving around the world. Congregations are invited to pray for these missionaries by name, learn about their ministries, and consider covenant support through In Mission Together. When we give, write, and pray, we strengthen God’s mission from Iowa to the ends of the earth—forming disciples who love boldly, serve joyfully, and lead courageously.
